- For U.S. and Canadian Citizens, you must have a passport that is valid 6 months beyond your day of departure from Ecuador. There is no tourist required for stays less than 90 days. - Travel insurance is required when visiting the Galapagos Islands. It is a condition of traveling with SA Expeditions that you have suitable travel insurance to safeguard against unexpected expenses related to trip cancelation or trip interruptions. See Terms & Conditions for more information. - Visitors to the Galapagos Islands must pay a national park entrance fee, which is currently $100 per person ($50 for those <11 years old). This can either be included in your package or paid upon arrival at the airport. - Upon arrival to the Galapagos, all travelers will be required to have a Transit Control Card (or Ingala Card), which will be included in your package and given to you in-person prior to your flight to the islands. - There are no specific vaccinations required to enter Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. However, the CDC recommends being up to date on routine vaccinations such as measles, mumps, rubella, and influenza. - There is no longer any COVID-19 vaccination nor test requirement to enter Ecuador or the Galapagos Islands. While COVID-related requirements are quickly evolving, all travelers will receive a pre-travel document with the most up to date information, as well as important details needed to prepare for a memorable and smooth journey.

For those preferring to stay on land, our Land-Based Island Hopping Tour allows travelers to see the unique, endemic wildlife of the archipelago while staying at a charming hotel every night. You’ll enjoy day tours and excursions exploring the islands of Santa Cruz, Isabela, and Baltra, as well as enjoying a variety of activities, including snorkeling, hiking, and wildlife watching. While you may be able to transit from one island to another by small plane, keep in mind most islands are only accessible by speedboat or ferry. For motion and sea sickness, we suggest you consult your doctor to see what medication is best to prevent any nausea, dizziness, or other common symptoms.

These are some of the top islands to consider visiting: - Santa Cruz Island: This is one of the most popular and accessible islands, with a variety of wildlife and attractions, including the Charles Darwin Research Station, Tortuga Bay Beach, and the giant tortoise breeding center. - Isabela Island: This is the largest island in the Galapagos and offers diverse landscapes, including active volcanoes, pristine beaches, and mangrove forests. To experience the highlights and maximize the opportunity to spot unique wildlife that the islands are famous for, it’s generally recommended to spend a minimum of 4 to 5 days in the Galapagos Islands. If you have more time and are interested in exploring more of the islands or participating in specific activities such as scuba diving, hiking, or birdwatching, you may want to consider staying longer. Our Galapagos cruise itineraries are typically 4 to 7 days. However, you may choose to extend your stay and add on excursions as you wish.

To get to the Galapagos Islands, you will take a flight from mainland Ecuador (either Quito or Guayaquil) to the archipelago. There are two airports in the Galapagos: Seymour Galapagos Ecological Airport (GPS) on Baltra Island, and San Cristobal Airport (SCY) on San Cristobal Island. Flights are operated by several airlines, including LATAM, Avianca, TAME, AeroGal, and Emetebe. The airline you fly on will depend on the day and season of the departure date.
